Kaloyan Kirilov is an investment banker with 20 years of experience. After completing an MBA (Master of Business Administration) with a full scholarship from GVSU, USA, he worked for the US Agency for Small and Medium Business and Merrill Lynch. After returning to Bulgaria, he engaged in consulting in the field of mergers and acquisitions. He is the founder of Synergy Group and two startups. He is the author of the books "Startup in BG" (first and second part), "How to sell my company?" And "The Story of Extrapack".

We accept that most of the owners of family companies in Bulgaria started their business in the 90s of the last century. Then they were 30-40 years old; now, in 20-30 years - already 60 and older. First, at this age it is normal to think about rest and retirement. More importantly, however, when an owner has been in business for twenty years, he is already extremely tired - mentally rather than physically. People who have ever run a private business will understand very well what I am talking about. And here is a problem. You are old and no longer have the strength to continue the daily struggle with the big international companies for a place in the market. If you were an employee, the most normal thing would be to retire and look after your grandchildren. However, when you have a business, you can't just throw it away and go to Hawaii tomorrow. You start to wonder what to do with the business. Who to leave it to? Do your children want to deal with it? Do they have the skills to develop it? This business is like another child for you and you do not want to just leave it and hope that luck will cover you. This transmission of a business from generation to generation is also a problem in the West, and is known as succession planning. who will take over the business from the owners.
